Jean Brunel

Jean Brunel is the managing principal of Brunel Associates, a firm founded in 2001 to serve ultra-high net worth individuals and their advisors. Prior to founding Brunel Associates, he spent the bulk of his career with J.P. Morgan, becoming, in 1990, the Chief Investment Officer of JP Morgan’s global private bank and a Director and Member of the Executive Committee of J.P. Morgan Investment Management, Inc. He has been the Editor of The Journal of Wealth Management since its founding in 1998 and he has authored two books – Integrated Wealth Management: The New Direction for Portfolio Managers, by Euromoney (2002, 2006), and A Practical Guide to Goals-Based Wealth Management, by Wiley and Sons (2015) – as well as many peer-reviewed articles.

During his nearly 40-year career, Mr. Brunel has been based in the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia, and served clients around the world. His three most notable areas of focus have been tax-aware investing, goals-based wealth management and the role of alternative assets in balanced portfolios. In 2011, Jean received the prestigious C. Stewart Sheppard Award from the CFA Institute; this award is presented annually to an individual CFA charter holder in recognition of outstanding contributions in fostering the education of professional investors and the development of programs and publications to encourage continuing education in the investment profession.

In June 2012, Mr. Brunel was named the 2012 Multi-Family Office Chief Investment Officer of the Year by Family Office Review. In April 2015, he was the first recipient of the J. Richard Joyner Wealth Management Impact Award newly created by IMCA; it recognizes key innovations and thought leadership in any of the CPWA knowledge domains. He is a graduate of Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in France (HEC) and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University.
